This assignment is a group project; each class member is using a different GPS unit to compare readings of the location of an object over time.
Experiment Outline

- 1 Garmin GPS III unit
- 1 Magellan GPS 2000 XL unit
- Time
- Response Variable : UTM coordinates (northing and easting readings).
The Object
Procedure
Readings
should be taken twice a day between 9 and 12 and 1 and 3 each day during
the experiment. The experiment will be conducted on each weekday between
Monday, October 20, and Tuesday, October 28, 2003.
- Turn on GPS unit. Swivel the antenna so that it is pointing up.
- Place the unit on the fire hydrant on the connection port facing Price Hall. Make sure the antenna is still pointing up and that you can read the display.
- Wait 2 minutes (watch the clock on the GPS unit)
- Record the time.
- Record the UTM coordinates on the display.
- Record the weather conditions (sunny, partly cloudy, rainy, etc).
- Record the number of satellites visible to the unit, from the display.
